Phone is lost — locate it
Forgot your phone somewhere or was it stolen? Acting fast is the biggest fix. Being prepared (Find My Device ON) is a must.
Steps
- Open Find My Device
From another phone or computer, log in with your Google account at google.com/android/find. The phone's current location will show on the map (if the internet is ON).
- Ring it
If the phone is somewhere in the house or office, tap 'Play Sound' — the phone will ring at full volume for 5 minutes even on silent.
- Secure Device (lock it)
Use 'Secure Device' to lock the phone and set a contact number/message on the lock screen so whoever finds it can reach you.
- Get the SIM blocked
If you suspect the phone won't come back, immediately get the SIM temporarily blocked on your carrier's helpline — stay safe from misuse. The PTA helpline can also block the IMEI.
- Erase data: last option
Doing 'Erase Device' from Google wipes all data on the phone. Do this when hope of getting it back is gone — after erasing, the phone can't be located.
- File a report
In case of theft, definitely file a police report and a PTA complaint (with the IMEI).
Tips
- Keep the phone's IMEI number (dial *#06#) safe on the box/receipt — that's the phone's identity.
- For the future: keep 'Find My Device' and location history ON in Settings.
