Apps keep crashing

An app opens and immediately closes, or you see a 'keeps stopping' message — try these fixes.

Steps

  1. Update the app
    Play Store > profile > Manage apps — install the update for the crashing app. Developers often ship crash fixes in updates.
  2. Clear the cache
    Settings > Apps > [app name] > Storage > Clear Cache. Your app data stays safe; only temporary files are cleared.
  3. Clear app data (last easy resort)
    If clearing the cache didn't help, use 'Clear Data' — but remember, it makes the app like a fresh install (you'll have to log in again).
  4. Check permissions
    Settings > Apps > [app] > Permissions — many apps crash when required permissions (Storage, Camera) are denied.
  5. Reinstall it
    Uninstall the app and install it again from the Play Store. A corrupt install sometimes gets fixed this way.
  6. Phone software update
    Settings > System > Software Update — once system-level bugs are fixed, apps become stable too.
